Well if that's the case then about 85% of the mixing has already solved iteself, providing there was a good tracking engineer involved (and a band producer if the direction is needed from one) .....

From what I've learned over the past year, I know that placement and balance along with proper filtering is what really makes up the majority of a good sounding mix. Effects are there for enhancement purposes and are indeed very important.. but not my biggest hurdle.
Here is pretty much everyone's biggest hurdle whether they realize it or not: EQ
Without filtering, volume and clarity are not often found. Without proper low end filtering, everything is usually muddy
