    Well if that's the case then about 85% of the mixing has already solved iteself, providing there was a good tracking engineer involved (and a band producer if the direction is needed from one) .....

From what I've learned over the past year, I know that placement and balance along with proper filtering is what really makes up the majority of a good sounding mix. Effects are there for enhancement purposes and are indeed very important.. but not my biggest hurdle.

Here is pretty much everyone's biggest hurdle whether they realize it or not: EQ

This isn't just an idiotic rant about my loathing of large food product companies.... maybe you'll get something out of this but probably not. I am ready to fall asleep but wanted to make this point in the odd way that I did. I will be thrilled if even one of you understands what I am saying.
