Default Sony Acid Pro, XLR/USB Problem

I have an xlr to usb cable ( http://www.soundtech.com/lightsnake/xlr10.asp ) that I use to record with on Sony Acid Pro 6.

Here is where my problem lies. When the cable is plugged in my computer attempts to play the sound through the cable. If I were to have the cable plugged in I could not here any sound from my computer.

Comp Specs: HP Pavilion DV6000; AMD Turion64 X2 @ 1.60 ghz, 1 gig of ram, Windows Media Center Edition, HD Audio Card, USB 2.0

This prevents me from multi-tracking. I record the instrumentals first, then I attempt to play the music and record the vocals at the same time and its a no go. I have tried a few different things and nothing seems to be working.

I'm not sold on sony's software, its easier than adobe audition, but if anyone could point me towards a simplistic multi-tracking software that would be great.

Anyone have any advice?

-Austin

I am not familiar with Acid pro or the lightsnake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!............you could try this.......find out where you set your recording device and playback settings....................choose your lightsnake as your recording device..............choose your soundcard as playback device..........hope this helps.......Ronnie B.

disclamer.........i dont claim anything i say to......make sence......be correct or logical..... it's just my opinion.......there is something to be said about figuring out problems and coming to a conclusion by yourself.

Well the LIGHTSNAKE is finally here!!!!

Actually, I just heard of this contraption 2 minutes ago when I opened this thread. Either this is an incredible innovation that will change music history or it'll find it's place next to the Suzanne Summers exercise equipment in attics and yard sales all over the country.

The biggest problem I'm having with this unit is...

What about the output? How does a person hear themselves? Are they expected to just use the stock soundcard with the 3 years of latency?

Dr0n3, I'd love to help you, but I wouldn't know where to begin. Seriously, this is new stuff that doesn't really fit the rules of our current system.

I'm a little skeptical at first glance.

Just read the users guide for the lightsnake, there is no users guide online for the xlr to usb, only 1/4" guitar/keyboard to usb..........they have a solution for the latency, however it is not very elegant, but should work........the lightsnake guitar/keyboard comes with a 1/4" splitter that allows you to send the signal to an amp of your chioce(this becomes your direct monitor) and to the computer via the 1/4" to usb, there is a setting in the software that allows "direct monitoring".......now if the xlr to usb has the same software....... you could use a mixer with an xlr in and xlr stereo outs, plug yer mic into the mixer, set pan to centre, you could then run the left out to the usb device and right out to a seperate monitoring system..........but this would require an extra peice of hardware, and for the money spent you would be better off getting a usb interface that can handle auidio in and out.
Reading the contents of the xlr to usb, there is no splitter, the guitar/keyboard to usb has splitter.
Ronnie B.
P.S.
it seems that both the xlr and 1/4" are going for $40.00 usd.

Yea, I spent $39.99 at my local guitar center. I'm just doing basic recording for my friends band and his side project. He had an unmastered professional recording done and there is little to no difference in the quality from what I have recorded with my shure sm-58 mic, lightsnake cable, and $750 computer compared to the 5 or 6 digit price of the studio.

Hearing yourself while recording is not a big need of ours. Their stuff is mostly instrumental and they do not even have a lead vocalist so anything recorded is going to be recorded once or twice and thats it.

That being said I am unsure of how to change the recording and play back options in acid pro, I will continue to fiddle with it, but until then any advice on this would be great.

P.S. If I figure this out I'll let yall listen to the recordings to see what you think as far as the quality goes, even though there are many factors at hand.

EDIT: I believe i fixed the problem, I went into the control panel of windows and to the audio devices and changed the playback to my auido card instead of the mic cable and set the recording to come form the mic cable. Hope it works, will keep you updated.

I have fixed the problem, everything is working smoothly.

Here are the acoustics to a song I am working on. Recorded with a Digital Reference VX1 mic positioned in front of the guitar in a rather sound proof room. This is raw, just recorded, nothing done to it.

To stream it go here (The stream is very glitchy and casues to song to pause every 3 seconds or so for me)http://www.putfile.com/downloadfile/Acoustic-Test-13

To Download it go here (You have 20 nag pages before the actual download)

Sorry for the shitty hosting, I'll get a better source shortly.
