They both are DAW's with MIDI and loop capabilties correct? Being a long time Vegas user I would think that you would be very comfortable with the interface in Acid. Just curious...........

Well, since I don't use loops, I'd go with Vegas instead of Acid. I used Vegas for a long time and never looked back after switching to Cubase. I hear they've just added a sequencer to Vegas and Acid, but have yet to confirm that. I do need: a powerful sequencer The ability to program techo in morning and then record a live death metal band later that day the power to play VST instruments such as Kontakt 2 VST plugins as well as direct X plugins. very powerful routing features. For example, with Cubase SX3, I can send an aux from a snare drum to a compressor and send the output right back to the drum bus. I can edit down to a single sample (1 /44,100 of a second). Cubase has totally done away with the need for Soundforge with it's built in wav editor. Everything can be automated in Cubase. At least I haven't found anything I wanted to automate that couldn't be automated. The tempo, turning inserts off and on, aux sends, aux returns, levels, etc. I require software monitoring. I want to use my compressor plugins while I'm tracking vocals. The editing in Cubase blows away anything else I've used. It's very fast and natural. I love the sequencer's logical editor that allows you to do all kinds of crazy stuff with midi. You can basically create if / then statements for altering midi in one way or anothre. (I do php programming from time to time so I'm used to thinking in this manner, I guess). So far these are all I can think of. Cubase really has their shit together on both the midi and multi track recording side. I can't speaker higher for the program and I'm not even using the latest version. Cubase does have a learning curve. In order to take advantage of the genius that went into it, you have to learn how to use it. A back hoe is harder to learn than a shovel. You take the shovel, I'll take the back hoe and we'll see who can dig a swimming pool first. It took me a day to learn basic features and another day to dig deeper. Brandon |

Thanks for the list Brandon......... Acid will do some of your list. I have been working on a track use 3 VST's at once. PRO-53, FM7, and something generic......with direct X reverb. I have never player with Cubase, but like I said before it is popular. I wish I had more time to learn new stuff......I have worked with Ableton Live somemore, but can't seem to make it flow when I am feeling creative. I ton of people seem to use it though.....I watch the videos and the folks make Live look easy.....comes with time and more time...... So are you using SX3 Brandon???

I know they have consistently added features to Vegas and ACID, so I have to admit that I'm basing my opinions on software that is a few years old. Quote:
I've used the PRO-53 for a few lead melodies, but really didn't know it could actually play chords until last night. These damn VSTs have so many options and such that if you took the time to find the end of their capabilities, you'd never actually make any rukus. So, I just jump in and learn along the way. Quote:
It may not be perfect for everyone, but it's just so well thought out in every way. They've pretty much thought of everything. In the end, the software is just a tool. So it's not like a person needs Cubase to do their thing. However, I've found that making music is more fun within Cubase and just about every complaint I had about Vegas has been solved (and there are quite a few features that Cubase thought of that I didn't). acid pro 6.0 has most of that. acid pro 7.0 has all of that. it really makes no difference which one you use. oh wait...if you like bright colors use cubase.

I'm currently making use of both programs right now. Sony acid and vista 64 bit don't get along at all, but it still works great when i'm mixing and recording a lot of tracks. I use cubase for my overdubs (what acid won't let me do for some reason) but, it too hates vista 64 bit and freezes up all the time. If i could, I'd only use Acid. |
