Hi, I'm struggling to work out how to record on tracks 9-16. I play in a 9 piece band and we'd like to record the rhythm section on tracks 1-8 simultaneously, and then to record the vocals and brass after, presumably on tracks 9-16 (?) Trouble is, and I don't know whether I'm just being dumb, but I just can't find any info in the manual, only references to the fact that it can record 16 tracks with 10 .V takes. Can anyone help me please? |

Step 1.Rough mix all 8 rythm tracks that you've presumably recorded on 1-8 V take 1 to V take 10 of track 15/16 using "BOUNCE".You now have something to play to.Disregard this track after you've finished. Step 2.Select V take 2 on tracks 1 to 8 (presuming you have used V1 for the rythm tracks)Then....Record your instruments. Step 3.Do a stereo drum mix of tracks 1 to 8 (V1) (mute bass) bounced to 15/16 (V2) and COPY or BOUNCE bass to 14 (V2).You now have seperate bass and drums on only 3 tracks total. Step 4.You now have instruments on 1-8...BASS on 14 and a stereo kit/percussion on 15/16.PLUS spare stereo tracks on 9/10 11/12 for prospective overdubs or instrument "sub mixes" via the bounce function. You can carry on doing this ad infinitum if you want to, applying insert effects to taste, whenever you bounce.Keep any pre treated bounce V take for referance prior to mixdown,or better yet, create WAV files (I'll not go into that,as I know bugger all about it)and mix in another medium. In short,as long as you write down the procedure that you have followed there's no reason why you can't record 160 tracks before you decide which ones to mix,it's all in understanding V Takes. If you simply tried to record to 9-16,I believe you'd end up with things panned hard left and hard right or at least a less flexible arrangement than the way I mentioned. NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU BOUNCE.....NEVER ERASE THE SOURCE MATERIAL.SORRY FOR SHOUTING. Last edited by Can of worms; 10-23-2009 at 06:28 PM. |

thanks very much for that. I'd kinda come up with a similar concept since my original query, though the recording adventures have been put on hold for a short while as we're busy gigging. Thanks again, I'm sure we'll need some more advice further on down the track. PS No charge for the pun! |

They lied. You can only record 8 tracks at once. Read the fine manual You cannot record to tracks 9-16. Move tracks 1-8 to 9-16 ; then record more using 1-8 again. Read the fine manual again , it is in there. |
