Hello Everyone, I am Rick and have been playing around with Cakewalk Sonar 3, Producer Edition; however I decided to purchase a zoom to eliminate dropout and other things associated with recording with computers. I hope to find someone with knowledge about working this recorder. It has a lot of capabilites. I am pretty new to audio engineering and desire to learn as much as I can. I am songwriter, lead and bass guitarist, and I play keyboard. I hope to start a gospel group. Any assistance would be appreciated. RL |

I can't say I know anything about it other than what the reviews and specs indicate - I just bought one of these units over the weekend - you & I have similar music interests.

I am working my way around copying and moving files between computer and the HD16, but still my tracks doesn't have the killer sounds yet, just the demo sounds. I am reading info about sound editing and mastering so I can figure out how to achieve a professional sound or something close to it anyway. I have Sonar 7 also for additional editing if necessary. Knowing what to process on the different instruments poses a challenge but I'm willing to learn. Is there a good tutorial or video available somewhere?

Thanks for the reply gentlemen. At the present time I am gathering all the knowledge possible from these types of reading and other articles. I am going the long route and trying to gather knowledge about sound in general and sound dynamics while experimenting with the HD16. Hopefully I will get to post audio samples that sound decent. Brandon, I look forward to your book.

Hi everybody.. Im Johnny.. I have been trying to work w Pro Tools and other software myself.. but typically i end up needing a sound engineer. I was so happy to find this Zoom HD 16. I am getting more done on my own in the last couple weeks than several years hassling with the computor softward... Its True for real recordings for records it may be better to use the High End stuidos.. Which I am currently doing for a on acouple ablums im writing recording. We are in the high end HD Pro Tools major Studio.. However I really like using the HD for song ideas.. and i think it would be real cool to send wav files to some of the pros I work with... I am told that this format cant compare to the big time HD Pro Tool rigs.. Im ok w that but would like to network with people using the Zoom.. If i can eventually use the wav track files for my main recordings that SO BE IT I would luv that!! It's an amzing piece of equip. I have tried other Hard Drive recorders but to me this is so very USER FRIENDLY.. I have a producer friend in Canada who tells me his friends agree and really like this machine more than all the other Hard Driver Recorders.. ROCK ON Last edited by Johnny U; 02-11-2008 at 08:13 PM. |

JohnnyU, Once you mix your tracks down, they get saved as a stereo track on the master track. You do this by going to the project/utility screen I think. You get an option to name the file. If not it will default to a mix.wav or something like that. To burn this wav file (it gets stored in the import folder I believe - I don't have my manual with me at work) to a cd you have to go to the cd utility by holding "shift" and pressng 1. The burn cd menu will follow. If you want to send this file to your computer you have to connect the usb cable to your HD16 and your cable. You hit shift plus the key for usb. It's one of the numbers at the bottom. Now your computer can read from the hard drive of the zoom. You go to the project folder and find the import folder and look for the mix there. Now you simply copy that wav file to your computer. You can find the details in the manual but those are the basic answers to your question. I have not tried to do a video on you-tube. I will have to learn these things. Rick |
