Default Hi Glad to Find this User Group For Zoom HD 16

Hi everybody.. Im Johnny.. I have been trying to work w Pro Tools and other software myself.. but typically i end up needing a sound engineer. I was so happy to find this Zoom HD 16. I am getting more done on my own in the last couple weeks than several years hassling with the computor softward... Its True for real recordings for records it may be better to use the High End studios.. Which I am currently doing for a on acouple ablums im writing recording. We are in the high end HD Pro Tools major Studio..
However I really like using the HD for song ideas.. and i think it would be real cool to send wav files to some of the pros I work with... I am told that this format cant compare to the big time HD Pro Tool rigs.. Im ok w that but would like to network with people using the Zoom.. If i can eventually use the wav track files for my main recordings that SO BE IT I would luv that!! It's an amzing piece of equip. I have tried other Hard Drive recorders but to me this is so very USER FRIENDLY.. I have a producer friend in Canada who tells me his friends agree and really like this machine more than all the other Hard Driver Recorders..

ROCK ON

This isn't exactly true. The format isn't really the issue. It's bigger than that.

We'd expect a Pro Tools HD Studio to also have an incredibly accurate monitoring system, great mics, GREAT ROOMS, professional engineers who really know what they are doing, outboard gear that may be superior to the processing in your standalone recording, etc.

This is why we can expect superior results from a Pro Tools HD studio. The Pro Tools factor is a very small part of the equation.

Hey Johnny,
I know what you mean. I tried several of the computer software recording programs, but they are so complicated and I really didn't have the time to spend learning them. I just wanted to be able to sit down and record when the mood hit. With the Zoom hd16 I was recording tracks within 5 minutes of hooking it up. It's great. I still haven't figured out everything this machinge can do but that's OK. I will get around to it . This was on sale at sam ash for $649
and I was kind of worried that it seemed kind of cheap. But after using it for awhile i'm surprised they don't charge a lot more. it is a quality piece of equipment.
cheers

I had a LONG LONG LONG mixing day yesterday. I had a discussion with the band dude I was mixing for. I mentioned how complicated this ENTIRE audio engineering this is.

I'd say that that off all the issues I fight with as a recording dude (room acoustics, studio monitoring accuracy, understanding frequency stuff, bla bla bla) that the recording software is maybe 1% of that equation. In other words, once I conquerred my recording software (a little more than a weekend) I found out that I had an entire army of complications.

I'm curious. If you don't have the time to learn recording software (I understand, I don't have time to hang out with my friends much these days) when do you think you'll have the time to actually record music?

OK,
I'm 57 years old so I don't have nearly the get up and go I used to. I own a small cabinet shop. I get up at 5am get to work by 7am work from 10 to 12 hours at the shop. Get home after 7pm, eat, shower, usually my wife has a honey doo list for me, plus whatever else has to be taken care of. Soooo if I get 1 measly hour to spend in my studio i want to be playing and recording, not trying to figure out how a software program works. Not trying to be a smartass, that's just my reality.

Cheers

Me too have spent a month researching the market and fianally after much deliberation decided on the Hd 16!! My only quam was the fact that it was 16bit. Ooogles of forums on 16bit/24bit question. I used to own a Korg hard disk recorder with an option for 24/16 bit recording for space saving reasons used to record everything in 16 bit with no complaints had to booste signals a bit more in the Mastering stages but all in all the finished results were good. As I'm eagerly awaiting my hd 16 in the post on it's way to barbados (might take an age) can anyone fill me in on the computer interface software that comes with the unit. I've only expierience useing hard disk recorders on their own and am very keen to try out mixing with a mouse. Cheers.

Cool Re: Hi Glad to Find this User Group For Zoom HD 16

The good news is you don't have to use your mouse to mix with in the software. HD 16 comes with cubase le. There is a usb/midi interface so you can actually use the controls on the mixer to control the software mixer.

go to this site and check out the short vids at the bottom of the page. you know what they say about a picture is worth a thousand words,,,,, a video is priceless

samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1919&brandID=4

cheers

Fair play, will do that.. did'nt know that they had more vids on the product the ones I found seemed to be rough overviews..
Am off to buy timber this week to create a vocal box in the spare bedroom will be a good challenge as it's going to have to be completely mobile.(me woman keeps on going on bout guests)Soundproofing matierial is also a rare find on the Island looks like egg cartons and styra-foam for me. Could be worse I remember me first band recording in a room full of damp mattreses we had been collecting from skips. Two 58's hung from the cieling and a taskam 4 trck. Did the job though...that was high fidelity in Ireland durring the 90's.

Admittadly it also may be the fact that I am not very technically savoy.. Many Pro Tool folks claim its so easy and dont understand my limited learning curve... Who knows All I know I need others who can use it but for me at home I love using the Zoom HD 16.. Plus my Pro Engineer guys say my tracks are just as much qaulity as theirs plus they can edit add effects etc..

I am starting to use Pro Tools A bit more
A great Studio Guitar Player I met who does Tracks for me has been kind enough to teach me Pro tools from afar but its working
I am now starting to use the whole Midi thing which opens up alot
I guess the zoom has midi capability too I just havent used it yet
but I love the Zoom machine.. but to keep from going up over into the red zone
i tend to record at the level - 16 ---- -9 when i get up in -6 it goes over too easy to the red zone
anyway
thats a update from me
now im working on inputting some of the wav files into the protools rig
