Yamaha MO8 to PC?
I recently spent at least 5 hours with a friend working on a hip hop instrumental, recorded on the Yamaha MO8, only to find that I had no way to transfer audio data from my keyboard to my PC. I can only transfer MIDI data, and the .MIDI file that the transferral leaves on my laptop sounds horrible compared to the original song when played back on the keyboard itself. I've searched almost everywhere for a way to get the song on my computer to get ready for the recording of the vocals, but I have yet to find something. Is there anything anyone can say to help me out?
Thanks everyone in advance!

Re: Yamaha MO8 to PC?
Yeah, just route the audio jack in and record, press play, and wait it out.

Re: Yamaha MO8 to PC?
Oh, um... Forgive me but how does one go about doing that? Is there any particular software I need to use? Or any special cables? I've been trying to figure this out, but there seems to be no way.
Thank you for replying so quickly!

Re: Yamaha MO8 to PC?
If it were me, I wouldn't do the sequencing in the Yamaha MO8. I'd do it in your recording software and then send MIDI out to the MO8 to trigger the sounds. The only thing is, dealing with hardware in a software world can get a bit tricky.
Here's an old article: » Using Hardware Synths In Softsynth World

Re: Yamaha MO8 to PC?
I expect the intructions are in the users manual for signal routing.
When you route the MIDI preformance instructions back to the keyboard, you say it comes through as a poor rendition. I would double check all the MIDI filters in both the keyboard and in the DAW. For example, the DAW may not record sent velocity data because the DAW is set to "ignore" by default. Also, the recorded MIDI data may not even set the instrument patch, etc.. Not uncommon with crappy sequencers.pss790&370, K1,K1r, d-5, qy10, x-fi notebook, gina20, turser p90 sg, Ibanez steel string, Bongos, Washboard, Roberts 770 w/dual EF86, cedar ridge acoustic, EKO Ranger 12-string, DeArmond M65, Electromatic JJ bass, DeArmond M75, Fulltone FD2, Tannoy Sixes, DPS,DR1,DR-X m106, dbx128, korg SQ1, akai s2000, tascam PS5, ultraNOVA, dod 866ii

Re: Yamaha MO8 to PC?
I used to own a mo6 for years, great little machine.
Never messed with the sequencer, no way it can compete with cubase.
For me.
If you have a hardware sequencer background and have spent the time, you can really get going with that stuff.
What I did was use midi clock to get the sequencer in sync with the mo6 then I can transfer parts one at a time and use the full power of the machine on each voice. It can sound really great but when it's trying to do a bunch of voices the quality goes down.
Also one of the most powerful things in there is the arpeggios. Learn to use them and transfer them into your sequencer.
They're like little pieces of guitar parts, piano parts, bass parts etc.
Great if you're not a keyboard player in the first place.
You need an interface if you don't have one. Get one that comes with a lite version of cubase then you're setup.
I think this is a good deal:
Native Instruments Komplete Audio 6 | Sweetwater.com
According to NI they newer ones should have cubase LE6 in it.Last edited by tacman7; 05-16-2012 at 08:05 AM.
I never finish a mix, just abandon it.
