I'm sure I'm doing something wrong with this setup

I got a Dell 8300 Desktop with on board sound, aka soundmax, running XP SP3, and everything is updated.

I have my drum mics setup and placed, all seem to be registering with the mixer itself, but between the mixer and the computer software, either Audicity, Acid Pro 6, or Kristal, none seem to be able to pick up any sounds from the mics.

I'm using the usb uca200 interface that came with the mixer, hooked up through the cd/tape input/output jacks.

I either don't have something pushed in, or not set right.

Any ideas on what could be wrong.

If it's a soundcard, who has the best card to use?

did you get drivers with the hardware? You should lookinto drivers that may need to be installed to make the usb uca200 interface work with your computer. This interface as far as I know is only going to give you 2 tracks when you do get it working so you wont be able to mix the drums after they are on the hard drive. You will need to go back and replay the drums until you get the sound you are looking for.

The problem with the UCA200 is that is uses native Windows drivers to be plug and play. In the audio world I have noticed that plug and play drivers never are. You have to troubleshoot this like any other USB device. Go into device manager and try removing and reinstalling the device. You did not say what computer you are running whith what software. If you are running Vista then you may have other problems as well. The REAL solution to this is to get an actual audio interface. You can use the soundcard wizard on this site.
