Wiring out to insert
The headphone amp I have (Rolls RA-53) has 2 inserts on channels 1 and 2. These are for inputting a separate feed to these channels that will cut off the main signal.
The thing is, they are wired the same as inserts (I really can't figure out why!).
How would I wire the outs of "whatever output" to these? I'm thinking both TR of out should go to T of insert jack, but not too sure. Any ideas?"Do you know what I hate about computers? The problem with computers is that there is not enough Africa in them." Brian Eno

Re: Wiring out to insert
You are looking for something like this: Amazon.com: HOSA STEREO 1/4" PHONE (M) - TWO MONO/RING 1/4" PHONE (F), 6 in.: Electronics
I always forget which is which, but one is the input and one is the output.

Re: Wiring out to insert
Thanks Brandon. That should work, any idea on how that would be wired? I'm assuming the return signal would either be ignored or wired to ground.

Re: Wiring out to insert
They are for inputting another stereo feed into their perspective channel, they do interrupt the stereo program.
INSERTS
The Channel 1, 2 and 3 inserts have been provided so you can directly access
Channel 1, Channel 2 and Channel 3 headphone and earphone outputs with their
own program material.
The inserts require Tip-Ring-Sleeve connectors, with right and left signals on the
tip and ring respectively.
When these insert jacks are used, the main Right/Stereo and Left/Mono, as well
as the RCA and XLR Inputs - are disconnected to that channel. Only the stereo
signals sent to the Insert jacks go to the corresponding outputs.
BTW: Insert cables are easy to remember, Tip-Send / Ring-Return. Stereo cables are not, Tip-Right / Ring-Left

Re: Wiring out to insert
Thanks!!!
Why the hell don't they just say STEREO INPUT????
I thought it needed to be wired like an insert cable...maybe it would be if its coming from a pair of stereo output jacks, but from a headphone out its just a stereo cable."Do you know what I hate about computers? The problem with computers is that there is not enough Africa in them." Brian Eno

Re: Wiring out to insert
I was curious about your problem because I thought it might be for inserting say eq's or limiters. I wonder if they had troubles over what to call it. I think Direct Stereo Program Interrupt has a ring to it.

Re: Wiring out to insert
For sure...I was thinking of reasons for it being an "insert", so thoguth maybe it would behave like an insert where a signal could go in and out in order to send it to another input too...BUT I could think of no reason why this would be useful.
Now THAT would have been descriptive and useful.Direct Stereo Program Interrupt"Do you know what I hate about computers? The problem with computers is that there is not enough Africa in them." Brian Eno
