Default Windows 7 and XP mode

I was wondering how well windows 7 works with audio production because I am going to upgrade to windows 7 soon. I have read that it will have an XP mode. Is the XP mode reliable? Please let me know if you have any experience using windows 7 with:

Presonus Firestudio Tube
Behringer B-Control BCF2000
Cubase SX3
Ableton Live
Reason
Native Instruments Komplete 5

Thanks!

Did not hear about compatibility.
They are selling them with downgrade rights to xp.
Means you can run xp pro INSTEAD of 7 if that came preinstalled.

I'm in the process of installing Windows 7 Home Premium.
Considered Professional but the XP Mode does not ensure compatibility with most old XP programs. All Microsoft will say is some "business" oriented XP programs may work on it. XP Mode is not designed for home customers they say and there's no list anywhere's of exactly which XP programs will run on XP Mode. THe chances of XP music programs running on XP mode are very slim IMO ...............so I saw no value in getting Professional now and if you get the much cheaper Home you can upgrade cheap to Prof later if required.

Only one I can say for sure works on win7 is reason.
If you rely on these programs on a regular basis, I would wait until their respective companies (steinburg, ableton, etc) officially announce compatibility with win7.

That is always true.
And you should wait until release 3 of any new os so the thing is stable and the bugs have been fixed.

Just use the DOWNGRADE rights to run real xppro that comes with the new version OSs. I got a vista machine with downgrade rights to xp pro. Never going to use vista on that machine.
Ditto if I got a win7 box.

I can report good news on 32-bit Win7 Home Premium. Have finished the transfer from XP and all of my old XP prgorams loaded and work A ok on Win7. That includes a 2004 Band-in-a-box, a 5yr old Photoshop Elements 2.0, an old M-Audio Jetshell program, plus the new OpenOffice 3.1 works fine. Even Outlook 2002 is fine too. Also no prob's with EZDrummer or Toontrack Solo either

I upgraded with one of the RC Win7 installs about a month ago, and purchased the Ultimate version on release. Reaper, all NI products (that I have, anyway), SuperiorDrummer, hundreds of freeware plugins, etc... all run perfectly fine. The only thing I had to upgrade was my virtual drive program (DAEMONTools). This is all on a very old machine (P4, 4GBRAM, 800mhzFSB). Win7 is actually really nice.

Razorhoof, good to hear. I assume you are running the 32bit version? I am currently running the 64 bit version of Vista and will be upgrading to Win7 as soon as it gets there. I needed the extra ram for video editing so I am stuck in a 64 bit world. I am just hoping Win7 is smarter about how it uses the memory I am giving it!

Have been playing around with W7 64bit pro and XP mode with virtual PC

NOT TO BAD SO FAR !

I Upgraded to W7 64BIT PRO to get the advantage of more ram and the better OS , But
My mastering is done in Wavelab 6 which only works on a 32bit OS, which is why i am using xp mode and virtual PC.

Wavelab Installs fine in XP MODE except for the dongle.

THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN - XP MODE :

# dongles dont work to well in xp mode (driver issue)
# audio is coloured via playback in xp mode

If anyone has any further info or experience please let me know, im trying to figure out an alternative to a dual boot OS system.
Thanks.
