| the same equipment used for home recording can be used to play live be it a one-person band or more, no? would i be missing anything? All the basic instruments are included in these latest programs-cubase, cakewalk, etc and thus be sequenced and ready for live gigs---yes or no? i've got pretty decent pa equipment and i aspire to supplement my studio via live gigs: weddings, bar mitzvahs, wakes, naked tupperware parties-(do they still have these?), etc. that's about 20.00 in profit, not to mention the free leftovers, cheap dates & cheap beer. |

You should be able to do it all, but you have to cart your sound card, computer, PA and instrument(s) by yourself . If you get too many tracks going at a time make sure your computer can handle it (without too much latency).Cheers- Ian |

thanks for the quick response. What do you intend to do with these basic instruments in the live gigs? I'm assuming you plan on sequencing at least some of these beforehand. Brandon[/QUOTE] basically, i'd be doing karaoke live to presequenced sounds/tracks?/instruments. according to yourself and izzy pop, this should be possible, but izzy says it depends on your computer as to how many sounds/tracks the computer can handle and not have latency problems. so what kind of computer would handle this situation? say the 4 basic sounds/tracks?:bass, guitar, drums, keys and maybe a couple more--brass and extra percussion, etc. not to mention the effects that come with these programs, (or if i can have a full sequenced orchestra backing me up, why not?--plus i'd like to record film scores with said virtual orchestra.) no mac, just pc for now. would the latest laptops (i would hate to haul around a desktop) and software be sufficient? thanks for your patience Last edited by mausX; 07-06-2007 at 06:16 PM. I'm not sure of the benefit playing back sequenced tracks live when you could just render those down to .wav files. To playback 4 .wav files at the same time you could use any reasonably clean system made after 1993. To playback the same exact audio but triggering a modern synth could use 100% the processing power. To take it a step further, you could render those tracks down and more or less play to a cd. well, i was guessing just as much--that i could play off a cd, hdd, usb/external hdd once i've mixed down everything. i just thought some of these programs with midi triggers--to trigger other intruments/tracks, etc. allowed some sort of spontaneity for live situations. hmmm, still gotta research i suppose. thanx

Have your needs changed since the previous post? Live playing using midi instruments is apples and bowling balls when compared to karaoke. I guess I need to understand exactly what you want to do. In other words, are you planning on having 4 background tracks that "fixed" and always going while you improv with a piano sound? Brandon |

oh no, i'm back--and oy weh!!! the problems with computers. i may just record with wax cylinders, ha. what i thought were gonna be easy plug n plays ended up being a 2 week long headache to get them to work, sorta---these m-audio products-i just don't know what to say about them, and i just wiped out clean this sony and optimized it, oh well. sorry, just venting ok, while i still gotta figure out my inital thread about the jump from home recording to live, i'd like to know if the latest laptops would be able to handle a home recording set-up as well as the jump to live performance. i wanna be as portable as possible. i'm thinking of a laptop w/an amd turion 64 x2 core processor, approx. 1.80 ghz and 2gbs of RAM--with 3 to 4 usbs and firewire. any comments? cuz my 3.2 ghz 512 RAM sony vaio just had a hella time working with m-audio devices, and i havent even installed the logic 5 i have. also, i got 2-512 RAMS collecting dust that go with the Sony, would it be ok to put these in with the 2-256 RAM already in the Sony and make it 1.512gbs of RAM ? all the specs are the same except for the size----lotsa questions, sorry and thanx Last edited by mausX; 08-14-2007 at 08:25 PM. |
