Default what program is compatible with these interfaces

ok so i came up the other day. i was talking to a friend about recording interfaces and to my benefit he had just upgraded his recording system from 2 pci M AUDIO delta 44's to some high end firewire interface and also bought himself a mac book pro with some logic program. anyways point of the story is that since he's been a good friend of mine for years so he hooked it up and just gave me the pci interfaces. what i wanted to know is what program is compatible with these interfaces.. he was using pro tools m-powered but lost his copy and i dont wanna buy the program beacuase 1. its 300 bucks and 2. im brand new to this, i dont know if im gonna stick with it(later on obviously im going to upgrade to something better if i like it). so what im looking for is something between the price range of 100-150 bucks
any help is much appreciated!

You'll need to install the drivers from here:

M-AUDIO - Drivers and Software Search

After that, it should be compatible with almost any audio software. Cubase SE3 and the soon to be released Cubase Essential fall in that price range. They are powerful and versatile programs.

Just about everything. I'd go with Cubase if it was me.

This is tough, but if you aren't that interested in this, don't bother. Recording is TOUGH. Getting everything to work correctly is tough. Once you do it is even TOUGHER to get anything to sound good. I've been doing this 7 years almost full time and I'm still not happy with my work.

I was told to go with cubase. It was tough at first for me, now I love it! Ask/look around and see if you can get your hands on some LE version. Cubase SE3 is available for $150 (still kinda expensive). If you want you can get Sony Acid for $70. Maybe you can find something for less (ask your buddy if he got free entry-level software with his new Firewire thing). But then Brandon would tell you about simple recording software and its fallbacks.

i just read brandons simple recording software and its fall backs.. thats why i have chosen to go with cubase... i figured you know spend 150 (cubase se3) now and then see which way im headed and instead of spending 4 bills on a more advanced cubase program all i have to do is upgrade with 2 bills... atleast i think this is a pretty smart idea and if anyone has an opinion on this please state it!

Dude, trust me! I KNOW EXACTLY what you are saying!!!

Just a thought. There are many audio interfaces out there that come with Cubase LE for free. For example, this audio interface is excellent if it meets your needs and costs the price of Cubase SE3. (I'm not sure if SE3 or LE has more features).
