Post What I bought for my Recording Studio.

Hi.

I don't know if any of you remember me, I was one of the thousand guys that frequently ask "What mic should I buy? How to build my own home recording studio? etc..etc.."

Anyways, I bought all my gear and I wanted to share it with you.

Audio Technica AT4050 mic. ($600)

M-Audio BX8's Monitors. ($500)

Pro-Tools (Software). ($400)

PC: Pentium 4 - 1GB RAM / 80GB Hard Disc ($600)
(I have another PC for my reggaeton beats.)

Plus + The leather chair, mic cable, mic stand, mic pop filter, monitors cables, Audio technica headphones, and the acoustic foam.

**This is not for a "home" room studio. I will build a room for the studio in the back of my house.

So, I just need to build that room with all the acoustic, wood floor, etc.. and GET STARTED!

THANKS ALL!

L-1011Alpha

How do you find the BX8's? I'm thinking about these for my new studio at home. Jeff Rona uses them, the BBC have just bought them. Seems like a good endorsement for such a cheap product.

Glad to see you've got the ball rolling. Picking the gear is step #1 out of a 20 step process. Good luck! You always know that you can find help here.

Post your mixes in Bash This Mix when you get around to it.

richiebee,

If you want some highly rated home studio monitors that IMO are a very good value check out the Wharfedale's. You can get them here:

Since the thread is "What I bought for my Recording Studio" I would like to announce the addition of a new preamp. It is the FMR RNP $475. Ugly but wow!

I've never seen a preamp with tits. So.... the looks mean nothing to me. I once read a review of my Trident S20 preamp and the reviewer went on and on about it's great looks. I've had mine a few months and not a single hard on yet.

Anyway, so how are you liking this pre. Are you seeing any immediate improvement in your recordings?

Ohhh!!

Yes, they are very very good. Excellent bass response. I recommend them!
Well, at least for the music that I work (Hip Hop and Reggaeton) they are awesome.

Yes. Immediate, discernable, audible. Let me put it this way. Using the same mic selections, same recording environment I have at least 25% less mixing time. It is one of those wow improvements. The kind that you hear others talk about but making in their recording journey but wonder if it will happen for you. Anyway, when I did some research on the RNP I discovered that it was in the racks of many pro studios. Since I couldn't afford to move up to the $1000+ pre's I decided to buy this one. So, I modified a rack to accommodate the RNP and now it is in my magic wand.

The ONLY thing I care about in my studio monitors is how the mixes translate. Everything else is completely useless to me. So let us know how your mixes sound in your car and whatnot after using these. If they are really magical I'll take a closer look.
