Question Trouble with Tascam us1641...

Help! I am really frustrated. Ok, so I'm recording with my guitar hooked up to the guitar input on the audio interface, the appropriate button depressed to turn that input on. I can hear my guitar very nicely while I am recording, but when I get to the playback all I hear are my vocals. What is up with that? Have I totally misunderstood the reason for the guitar inputs?

Do you see the guitar waveform? Did it record it or not?

Is the volume up and the mute off on the guitar track in Cubase? Is the guitar track routed to the main output bus?

Is this your first time recording with this rig? has it worked before? You opened two different audio tracks, one for vocals and another for guitar, right?

It's something simple, I'm sure.

Cool Re: Trouble with Tascam us1641...

Ok, I did not see the guitar waveform, I wasn't using Cubase, and I did create two separate tracks which were both un-muted. Lastly, I have never used this job before, and I'm trying to get aquainted with it. Also, I mostly have been using Sonar, but I did install the Cubase Le 4 that came with my Tascam. I am finding it rather like wading through mud trying to figure it out. Sonar seems a whole lot easier to use. However, I do want to figure out this Cubase thing, and start using it more, because I have heard that a lot of pro's use it, therefore, it must be pretty good stuff. By the way thanks for the tips...

OK, so your guitar was not being recorded. Did you "arm" the track for recording? Did you assign the inputs from the guitar to that track? I think your interface is fine but that you need to configure your software. I'm not familiar with Sonar. Post your question in the Sonar forum, you might get better results.

There really isn't anything to figure out. You just have to go through the getting started guides to learn where everything is.

That's because you've been using it. Both Sonar and Cubase are excellent recording programs if you take the necessary time to learn how to use them, but if you want to bounce around looking for a recording program that is automatically intuitive, you will end up either dissapointed or a program that can't do what you want later down the line.
