Default Tascam US-1641 - Computer Interface?

Hi! I have a question for someone more knowledgable than myself. Does the TASCAM US-1641 bring in 8 SEPERATE analog channels into my recording software? I use Adobe Audition 2.0 - and want this thing to stream 8 mic's at once into Adobe. Will this do that? I can't tell if there's just a "master out" or something.... would ideally like 8 streaming input at the same time. Thanks!!! -Matt

Yes, I have one and it can simultaneously stream 16 separate channels into a multi-channel audio application. Eight of the 16 inputs are XLR mic inputs with phantom power.

i have two outputs coming from the rear of the unit 1/2 and they are going into to channels in my mixer... on q base i have the monitor icon hi lited on the audio track that has the vocals going in.... the rest of the audio tracks are guitars and drums... I then plugged my headphones into the headphone jack and what i was hoping to happen was have all the instruments and vocals coming into the headphones and just my vocals coming out of the p.a system (i was in a seperate room with condenser mic and headphones on) the problem is when i turn the dial on the tascam to computer.. just the vocals comes out to the headphones.. when i turn the dial to input just the band comes out to headphones.

What i ended up doing is i then hi lited all the monitor icons on all the audio tracks and then i got everything coming into the headphones... as far as the p.a. with i only wanted the vocals to come out i am not sure if instruments which i didnt want were coming thru.

Any suggestions what i am doing wrong?

(i have the guitars going in the front xlr's and the bass into the guitar input at front)

Have you ever recorded multiple channels into Cool Edit using a different audio interface? If the answer is no, I suspect that you need to learn how to set up multiple channels for simultaneous recording in Cool Edit. I've never used Cool Edit, so I don't know the answer specifically; however, most DAWs allow you to select the input channel on a per-track basis. I'd look for this in Cool Edit.

I used the delta series break out box. the m-audio program had a mixer for each track on the delta series break out box. the tascam us-1641 does not have that program. or is that what cubase is for?

Well Cubase and Cool Edit are both DAWs so yes, that is what they are for. As the previous poster said..You have to first CREATE the input channels (example:mono 1, mono2, stereo 1-2, stereo 3-4, mono 3,mono 4 etc.) and then when you open a new track you can SELECT the input channel you want..If you decide to use Cubase I can help..But Cool Edit must work the same way.. Look around Device Setup or Audio Setup, something like that.
