Default Tascam us-144 HELP!!!!!!!

Hi, I have a huge freakin' question....please help me!!!!

I just bought a brand new Tascam us-144 and so far, it is a doin its job...well, was doin its job...

I set it up just fine. I layed down a few tracks in Cubase and sounded really good. Then, not even having it two days, its crapped out... I'm not sure why. One minute I was recording, and the next minute it started doing that typical 'popping and cracking' thing. Then it stopped working all together. The two input and the USB LEDs are flashing in a random fashion. The inputs were flashing red.

I first adjusted the levels of the input and all of the little dials..... so then, thinking this was just a latency problem of some sort, I tried using the control panel to raise the latency levels, but nothing. The computer doesn't even recognize its even there. So naturally, I uninstalled and reinstalled the the driver. I did get it working again....... but just long enough for me raise the latency and and start recording again.... Then it crapped out again.

So, I downloaded the updated drivers and firmware. Again, it worked, but only for about 5 minutes. I figured out, that all I have to do is just unplug it, wait a few minutes, and plug it back in, but still same result. I thought it might be with the USB port, I tried switching the port and plugged my modem in the that one (just to see).....same results...

I can't think of anything else to do now.... Does anyone know what is going on?????

I tried looking on forums and faqs... but so far, I can't find anyone who has this problem.

Should I just return it and a get a new one (even though most people are happy with it)? Or should a refund and get something were this won't happen...ECK!!!!!!!!!!

While there are a handful of people who are happy with these little Tascam boxes, I've had more people have technical issues with them than any other audio interface.

The issues you are describing sound like the unit is malfunctioning. So, I would definitely return it.

Well, thats what I was thinking. I looked at a bunch of different models that are similar to this one. Like the emu-404 (i think thats what its called).

Anyway, what do you suggest for a replacement, something that is similar...preferably something that is compatible with cubase (even though im new to it..i fell in love with it )??????????

Any advice would be awesome.

Well, Cubase is pretty "compatible" with anything that is compatible with Windows. Of course, you want a real deal recording audio interface and not some consumer garbage.

Use the Home Recording Soundcard Wizard in my signature and see where that gets you.

I had the problem with the pops and clicks, and skips during recording and playback. After reinstalling windows xp sp2, I installed the drivers one at a time. Found after installing the wireless driver and attempting a recording the pops and clicks appeared! Disabled driver, the problem was gone. Installed the remaining drivers, and no problems while recording. The wireless driver was the problem in my case. I keep it disabled while recording. Problem solved. Hope this helps someone. P.S I did make a recording after each driver installation thats how I found the culprit. Happy Hunting!
