Default Tascam FireOne Incompatibility

Have Vista 32-bit/latest upgrade and my new FireOne interface (running latest 1.1 driver) surprisingly works ok audio-wise with Sonar 8 (though the transport controls don't work at all) but the main problem is neither Firefox/YouTube/General browser audio (Flash, etc) works at all, nor WMP. The message from WMP is: "Windows Media Player cannot play the file because there is a problem with your sound device."

When I go the control panel info, FireOne is selected correctly as default and it SAYS it's functioning fine, but when you go to the test tone, it says "Cannot play test tone".

The unit itself seems fine, going from 6 pin to 6 pin firewire. (I suspect this is some weird driver compatibility issue. I already did a clean reinstall of the new/latest driver 3 times, no change. Any ideas?

The Tascam tech guy had no idea, waiting for him to call back, he's checking it on his system, but I'm not hopeful. I smell a buggy driver.

In my Presonus Firestudio I have to click "Enable WMD audio" in the control panel to enable Windows audio. You may have to click something similar.

I hope that helps. Otherwise, I'm clueless.

Finally decided to split the system audio off from the DAW audio--back to using garbage on motherboardboard audio for YouTube/WMD and FireOne for DAW-use only. Seems to work.
