Hi there, I have this guy coming over in a couple of days with some stuff he has recorded with a Tascam da 38 some years ago. He wants to transfer the tracks into my hard drive / cubase set up so he can finish this recording with me. Me being me has said yeah sure bring it on down no probs. Problem is I dont know much about the AD 38, well I know it is a digital 8 track tape machine, but what I really want to know is if it has analog outs. He is hiring a machine for the session to dump everything but the only real way I can see to do this is if it has analog outs. Does anybody know?? I have surfed a bit and come up with nothing. I am looking for a view of the rear panel. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.... |

Yes, the DA-38 has 8 balanced 1/4" ins and 8 balanced 1/4" outs. You can use balanced or unbalanced connections. I haven't looked, but someone may be selling one on Ebay.com. You may get lucky and find a photo of the back panel there. I managed to find a user's manual that you might find handy here but sadly there's no back-panel illustrations. |

Hi There, Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I found the same manual and did a search on ebay too. The session was yesterday and it all turned out ok. The guy hired the machine, and had 2 tapes. So I dumped all the (14 songs) which were 16 track recordings,(obviously done on 2 tascams). Once I got everything in it was just a matter of lining up the first eight tracks on the first tape with the second by moving the wave forms in cubase. I had alook at the specs on the tascam, nothing too spectacular, 20 bit a/d converters. It really is incredible how far and quick(and easier) things have gotten for us who work with DAWs. In a way we have really become spoilt. Its great, the power and options we have available to us and being able to squeeze every last piece of creativity out of our brains. This Tascam was a pretty chunky peice of hardware and from what I understand quite expensive not so long ago. The other intersting thing was that this guy hadnt heard any of these tracks since 2000 (when they were recorded) It was abit like opening a time capsule!! Thanks and cheers. |
