Sound Card Ins and Outs?

This might seem like a dumb question but I was looking at the M-Audio Delta 1010 LT PCI Digital Audio Computer Interface and i was just wondering, what do you do with 10 ins and outs? What are they used for?

This would be mostly for "live" type recording rather than overdubbing track over track. If you are recording drums, 10 inputs can get used up in a hurry. As far as 10 outputs, here is a connectivity chart from M-Audio:

Alright, i forgot to ask in the beginning: What type of input and output connections are those anyway? RCA, S/PDIF, etc?

I had 2 Delta 1010s I used simulataneously for years. I had 20 inputs. 16 of those (8 from each audio interface) were standard line-level 1/4" inputs. I had to use external preamps. The other 4 were from S/PDIF inputs which I used with my Mytek AD96 converters.
