Default which software is for me?

Currently I'm using FL studio to make beats and little organ parts to compliment my instrumental guitar playing, which I record in adobe audition.. this is getting kind of tedious because I have to make a beat and export it to adobe audition and struggle to line everything.. also makes molding the beat to the song more difficult... so is there a program that I can do all these things in without losing my sweet effects in audition? Price isn't really a factor

I'm not familiar with FL studio at all so I don't know if the beats and organ parts you're referring to are midi or analog... if midi, have a look at reason to see if it does what you want. I have version 3 and like it a lot for drums. Pretty sure audition 3.0 supports rewire so you can pipe your reason output as audio into audition and have it synched up to the tempo of your host (adobe). You can either leave it as active midi within reason that gets piped into an audio track in audtion (which gives you the flexibility to edit the midi on the fly) or if you want to go light on your machine's resources, just record the audio output out of reason to an audio track in audition (or several tracks, one for the beat one for organ, etc... this latter approach is a little more complex but only a little).

The sounds of the keys that shipped stock with reason when I got it (version 3.0) are not the greatest but they are not bad. I rarely use them but use the synth from time to time when I want to convey something spacey in a rock tune. If you have to have top shelf organ and other keys samples they offer upgrade packs for that. I upgraded the drums - the main reason I have reason - and have been really happy with my drum sound since then. I would guess it's the same with keys. They are on version 4 now. I have not upgraded because the one feature I wanted in the upgrade didn't make it ... I just want drag and drop auditioning of midi files... such a basic feature missing from such a powerfull tooll.. tsk tsk... when they add that I'll gladly fork over the cash for any upgrades required to have it. Meanwhile version 3 is getting the job done for me.

Good luck.

Charlie

I use FL studio for midi-- you say I can "rewire" the output of reason directly into an adobe track and edit it in real time? That sounds like exactly like what I would need-- could you elaborate on how I set this up?

Hmm... specifics of how to launch rewire apps from within Audition you should get from an Audition user. Sorry I can’t help you there. I use both PT LE (7.3) and Reaper (mainly Reaper these days) and for both of those you launch reason (or any other rewire app) from within the host. Different hosts (PT LE, Reaper, etc…) seem to handle the “launching” part differently, each consistent with the way their UI is laid out.

If you should be able to open VST virtual instruments within Audition, right? Reason is one way to go, but you could also go the Kontakt 2 route. Kontakt 2 doesn't require Rewire since it is directly routed into the host.

Look into it. I'm a Cubase guy and know little about Audition.
