Default Ruined Condenser?

I HAD a nice condenser, MXL 991. It wasn't that expensive and came in a set with another condenser mic, but I've always been really happy with it, until the other day the guy recording with me asked "Is this mic on?" and tapped the end of it to check. The Result? He actually shoved the protective screen into the 3/4" gold diaphragm and scratched the surface of it. now when I plug it in it makes a bunch of noise and doesn't pick up any sound.

I was hoping i could just unsrcrew the top and and replace it since the daiphragm comes off like this. Anyone ever had this happen to them?

Never dealt with this. If I was going to PM someone with this issue it would be Freddy G. He may be of some assistance.

Drag,
The capsule is shot. I've been able to restore/resurrect capsules that were in really bad shape (neumann U87s and some chinese LD types) but the thing they all had in common was that they at least passed signal....no matter how bad.

At least the price of that mic is so low it won't hurt your "friend's" pocketbook too much when he buys you a new one.
