Cool "Recording Term Of The Day"(educational)

Ambience: The result of sound reflections in a confined space being added to the original sound.Ambience may also be created eletronically by some digital reverbs units. The main diffrenece between ambience and reverberation is that ambience doesn't have the characteristic long delay time of reverberation- the reflections mainly give the sound a sense of space.

Can anyone add to this term ?

if so please dont be scared its just a word!!!!....lol

Im outty R.R.com

Ah, its more than a word... just like w a r m, it's both very subjective, and elusive!

Personally, I think ambience is a type of reverb.

Now, this is an IMPORTANT word.

Ambience is EVERYTHING in my world. While easily over abused and easily under used, the right ambiance is what makes a track magical.

Most rap vocals are going to be on the dry side, but using just a subtle amount of reverb (in the right way) can do amazing things. I'm hearing this more on the latest rap stuff I've heard.

Ambience (like reverbs, delays, etc) is probably the hardest thing to get right in a mix and the most beneficial when you do get it right.
