Default Recording Interference on Mbox 2

Does anyone know why or how I could be recording interference when I record my vocals into Protools using the Mbox 2?

I have an AKG C1000s microphone plugged directly into the Mbox 2 XLR input and the interference sounds like a "pop" or "crackle" when I'm recording. I can even hear it in my headphones when recording vocals.

My computer is 3.0 GHZ, 2GB of RAM and 200 GB of space. Everything else in the software works great. Before purchasing Protools Mbox 2 I used a M-Audio USB interface and never had this problem, vocals recorded fine.

I even have a digital mixer (DPS 16) with a hard drive that I can record vocals onto fine as well with this same mic. The problem only occurs when I record into the Mbox 2 . When I play tracks back sound is always in the same exact spot so I know it's been recorded.

I even changed usb cables because I was told this could help... Nothing has worked so far

Help me out here what you guys think?

Hmm. It sounds like you've got it narrowed down pretty well. What is your latency set at? Have you tried raising it?

I've actually tried every latency setting and am now tired, I'm thinking of purchasing the Pre-Sonus Firebox or Firepod with Cubase LE and getting my money back from Protools.

As anyone ever used Cubase LE? I read alot of good reviews, but the more informed I am the better.

Cubase LE, from what I understand uses the same "engine" and interface as big boy (until early 2007) Cubase SX3. They have knocked the features down quite a bit, however. The number of inserts and VSTi's is pretty low, if I recall.

However, there are two reasons to this route.
1) You may be 100% content with Cubase LE.
2) Upgrading will save you some cash over paying for the upgrade to more "feature packed" versions.
3) You are starting on a VERY powerful system. Cubase is killer software. I think Cubase SX3 is OUTSTANDING! The more I use it, the more I'm impressed by it. So, for you to upgrade means you don't have to go through a big learning curve. Your already in the fast lane, so to speak.

The Presonus Firepod is only $400. If you've got the cash, jump on it!
