Default propellerhead Reason 3

does any one use propellerhead "reason 3" software?

had a look and it looks a bit complicated but seems to offer quite a lot....

cheap at under £50 as reason 4 now out

is it better then say cubase?

I use it quite a lot. I find it a very useful tool to have even just for notepadding ideas that pop into my head very fast. I like the fact that you can setup templates so that you don't need to setup a mixer and what not each time you're feeling creative. Just load up the template and get on with it.

Depends what you want to do.
You can't record audio with Reason 3 (or 4 for that matter I think), its purely sequencing software. But what I do if I want to use some audio I have created is load it up into an NNXT sampler. Or you can run Reason alongside CUbase or Ableton Live as a rewired application which means its channel outputs can be rewired straight into a mxing console in the other application.

While there is some overlap. Reason and Cubase do such different things that it isn't not really fair to compare them.

Reason is very popular and comes with some great sounds right out of the gate. Cubase is not just a sequencer, but a full blown recording program. The stock sounds within Cubase probably aren't as exciting overall and certainly aren't as versatile, but the stock sounds in Cubase are meant to get you started and that's about it. It's a given that a person will pick up 3rd party synths and samples, if that is the their bag.

A bigger issue is deciding between Reason and something like Kontakt. I've not been overly thrilled by the Rewire stuff I've used. I prefer to keep everything within Cubase. I've not used Reason, but I have a feeling that my entire workflow would have to change in a negative way. I'm sticking with Kontakt.

Are you sure you can't rewire Reason into Cubase?? I'm getting Cubase 4 tomorrow so I'm really excited

What kind of music are you doing? Check out the Abbey Road Samples for Reason if you go that route. Entirely different than anything out there and they sound AMAZING

I'm pretty sure you can rewire into Cubase. I've heard of zillions of people doing it.

Make sure to let me know how it compares to SX3. I've been EXTREMELY happy with SX3, but if it's better, easier, or faster than I'd consider an upgrade.
