Default Pro-Tools and M-box doubt.

I have a question that have been bugging me a lot!!

If I buy Pro-Tools, and the M-box... That means that I don't have to buy a sound card for the computer right ?

and, does the M-box and pro-tools can be used with any mixer ? Or I'll have to buy the Digidesign ?

Thanks in advance.

The M-box is the soundcard. Pro Tools LE is the software.

What do you need the mixer for? Just curious. The M-box is an all in one solution like many soundcards out right now.

Any recording soundcard can accept analog inputs. So you can always input the soundcard from a device like a Mackie mixer, for example. I'm not sure why you would need to though.

I have a Mackie mixer that I orginially used for preamps. I don't have much use for it now. I've always done all my mixing in the box, so the only thing a mixer is good for is monitoring. However, if you are using direct monitoring you don't need the mixer.

So, let me get this straight.

If I have the M-box.. I don't need the mixer (console) ?

I went to a studio recently; They had the M-Box connected to a yamaha 8 channel mixer.. With the mixer he controled the volumen.

OK.. NOW IM CONFUSED HEHEHE !

I'm not really sure you can use a mixer with the Mbox. It only has two line ins...Maybe some sort of digital/firewire mixer? Working with a mixer is totally preference. Everything you can do with a control surface can be done with a mouse, it might just take some getting used to. Digidesign is really anal and a lot of their software/hardware will only work with other Digidesign products so you'd need to do a little research. I just got Cubase SX3 and so far it's working great with my 002
