preamp in dmp3 or mackie vlz3

i plane to buy m audio 192 or 2496 .i record one vocal at a time so i dont see any need to buy mackie mixer vlz3 . i need preamp so looking my pocket i see its easy to buy dmp3 for me so i want to know whoes pre are better vlz3 or dmp3 i have a question how to hook preame to sound card so that i can do direct monitor while recording vocal with out mixer

I'd expect the difference to be so subtle that I wouldn't care either way.

Mic > Preamp > Soundcard

This assumes your soundcard has direct monitoring. If it doesn't, you can monitor through the computer like this:

Soundcard > Headphone amp > headphones
