playback problems

hi all.

i've recently bought a presonus firebox, completing my gear for recording. after connecting everything though, and trying to record my first proper track, i stumbled on the problem that i don't hear anything when i play back the recorded track?? But while recording, i hear the metronome and myself playing through the earphones, and setup the mic and its levels etc., all is as it should be. also cubase shows to be recording the track perfectly correctly. so everything works perfectly...except when i press play, I don't hear anything??.. also when i play music on my computer there's no problem... can anyone help please! getiing really frustrated...(please don't tell me my stupidity is the problem..?)

No, stupidity is never a problem. It sounds like everything is fine, but the output has to be directed to your sound card. You want it at system level - default device for the operating system (it may be sending to the built-in sound card), you want it the default device in your application - Cubase set-up or whatever, and you want to see how the track is set-up for output.

I have also checked that my pc's and cubase's outputs are set to "presonus firebox main out 1/2" and my speakers are connected...still doesn't work. As i said, playing music through winamp etc. works perfectly through the firebox outputs, and also when recording, I get cubase's metronome through the firebox outputs...so next to check would be?

Make sure that you have turned off the monitor buttons on your daw tracks during playback.

There's a feature to automatically turn on monitoring when you hit the record button and then automatically turn it off when you hit stop. You may want to look into that.
