Default Panning question in Cubase LE

I just recently started recording. I have an E-MU 0404 USB 2.0 audio interface which came with Cubase LE and some other programs that I haven't explored yet. I record myself one track at a time and I would like to be able to pan an instrument left to right and/or right to left during a song. Another thing I would like to do is to be able to vary the level of an instrument during a song or instrumental. Is there a way to do these things?

Thanks

sounds like you want to record automation. just turn on the write and read automation buttons for the channel you want to make adjustments to, then play back and tweak at the same time. if you play back again you will see the faders and panners move just as you had done. turn off write after you are done so you dont overwrite. you can also draw in volume and pan stuff in the automation track under the audio track you are messing with. you have to tell it to show the automation track cuz its normally hidden

There are several ways of using automation in Cubase. I'd DEFINITELY read the chapter on automation in the manual. I'd say it's required for any "real" mixing.

From someone who is pretty new at the cubase aspect of recording, I LOVE automation (though I haven't had a real need to use it so far, as I am just screwing around with the software). Its sooo freakin easy to do if you read about it. The Cubase manual put me to sleep for several nights, but if you get to reading it, it is a ton of help, basic as it is. After the Getting started manual, you can also read the operations manual, which has everything in it.

Volume Automation: The Most Powerful Mixing Tool

This article focuses on the volume side of automation, but the automation of effects sends and inserts should already be obvious.
