Default Opinions on DAWs

Just curios:

Which DAW seems to be the best, or favorite, or the least amount of trouble, or whatnot?

I realize that some are devoted to what they're used to using, like brand loyalty and such, but what I'm really interested in, is if some one has used one DAW, and found it better to switch to another and maybe why they did.

I have one, and and I'm thinking of jumping ship, but I don't want to say which one just yet, so as not to influence any opinions.

Thanks Buds,

jimusic

It's really a matter of what works for you. I tend to use the most basic software I can find - you can run it from a floppy and it doesn't need the windows registry. That kind of programming doesn't exist much anymore : ) The GUI is a big factor for me, and the standalone sequencer is still important for me.

I agree with Gaaww.

For what it's worth, I'm STILL using a cut down version of Samplitude (They're on v11 now - I'm on the cut down of V9)

The interface suits me, the sound quality is good enough and it does what it needs to (FOR ME).

OK, so it doesn't let me use unlimited VSTs. It limits the FX I can put into one channel and it only has 48 tracks. I seldom use more than 30 (including aux busses and so on), so I'm happy.

Got my hands on the cut down of V10 a little while ago. I've kept it, tried it for a week , then went back to V9 again. It's what you know and what you like, and anyone who says THEIR DAW is far superior is a DAW snob and not necessarily an objectibe judge.

Ya, I'm using samplitudes consumer cousin. I first got Music Studio Deluxe 2006, but I don't have the disk here and it stopped working. I bot the v11 a few months ago, but they dropped the sequencer. So, now I have v10 wit the sequencer and I can get my MSP(sequencer projects) files again. Happy camper !!

Yeah, I like my stand alone sequencer, as well, as I have many recordings done on it. I only went to a DAW to add audio and tie it all together. But things are messed up.

For the first time ever, I regretted selling my 8 track reel to reel.

I think some DAWs are getting over complicated.
I want to work on my music, not my computer system & set up.
The DAW i'm using may or may not work for me - I can't tell yet, cause I'm still f'ing with it.

Thanks for the replies so far, Buds.

Ya, I've collected 5 open reel(nothing to brag about models) this year. I've got a mono 5" in the bedroom where I keep my guitar and amp. I actually found a pre-recorded 5" mono Donovan/EMI this month in England and it runs slow at 3 3/4 on this old relic : ) Just a lube, I think. 7 1/2 is fine.

Cool! Mine was a Tascam, with a remote control so you didn't have to move back and forth to hit record, rewind etc.

Ha !! That would be too simple in today's world. I had a home deck with a full size wired remote. I did use it while I was propped on a bar stool with my 6-string and mic.

Which one suits you best may come down to how you work and your mindset. For me its Cubase. It's the most fully featured DAW I've used and works in a way I'm comfortable with. In terms of audio functionality, I can work in a similar way to ProTools, which to me is a good thing I like working with ProTools for audio. But MIDI is where I do most of my writing and I find Cubase to be most friendly. Part of this could be because I've been using it since 1994 or 5 when it was just MIDI.
