Smile New user, odd set-up

Hey,

I'm semi-new to this game (I've been a musicians for at least 10 years now, I've used 4-track tape recorders for most of that time, recorded in pro studios before, and messed around with pro-tools for about a year...emphasis on the "messed around"), so I'm not a total newbie/idiot when it comes to this stuff. Mainly, I just don't know all the specifics and science to it all (i "feel things out", I didn't go to school for recording, obviously. For instance, i have only a very theoretical idea of what hertz, kilohertz, dB, etc are).

My dad bought himself a Zoom 1608MRS last year, and after learning how to use that and seeing how well it worked, I bought the HD16, which I love. I basically have it mastered inside & out, but I'd really like to get into the aspect of it that interfaces with Cubase LE via USB as either a file transfer device and/or a control surface, which I haven't tried yet.

I have many questions in respect to this topic, so if any of you use a setup identical or even similar to what I have, PLEASE feel free to give me advice and/or let me hear examples of your stuff too! Otherwise, you'll probably see me on here asking alot of computer/sound card/cubase questions in the near future

What are you planning to use Cubase for? I'm always skeptical about combining the two technologies. The way I understand it you, can either simply import a piece of audio into Cubase so that you do "destructive editing" (not as bad as it sounds) and then import it back into your machine or you can go all out and import all your audio into Cubase and take advantage of 3rd party plugins, full automation, lots of routing options, add synths/samples, etc.

Of course, if you are going to use Cubase in the 2nd method, why not just track with it to begin with.
