Need some advice here guys...

Well im one of the lucky ones who has a Macbook with no firewire
Im going to be getting a USB interface. (Tascam 1641) I know that recording to the internal HDD isn't exactly the best thing to do so here lies my problem. Would getting an external HDD (7200rpm) and connecting it thru the second USB port be a better configuration than say just upgrading the internal one to a larger faster drive? Help me out here guys. I dont know much about specs and such when it comes to data moving around. Would my Macbook handle 12 or so channels of audio coming in and then going out to an external drive? Then on top of that is it good to have 30 or more tracks coming in thru that external drive via USB to mix???

Recording to external drives is common and should not be a problem. The 30 or so tracks "coming back" to mix is nothing like the problem of real time recording of audio. That part of the equation is insignificant. I don't know anything about MACs - be sure you have USB 2.0 if you expect to record more than two tracks simultaneously.
