Exclamation Need pro help getting started

I’m trying to set up my own recording studio at home. The equipment I have so far is- Adobe Audition 1.5 editing software, Boss BR900 multi track recording studio, Fender Squire Strat electric guitar, Takemine G series acoustic guitar, Sennheiser e835 mic, Zoom gfx-5 effects pedal and a very old laptop with OS XP. All instruments are connected to The Boss BR900 and then the sound is played through a standard stereo through aux. I then transfer the files export the files to the laptop for editing with adobe Audition 1.5. The sound is crap. Am I connecting the equipment wrong or is the equipment I’m using crap? What else do I need? I connect the Acoustic directly to the Boss BR900 and the sound is very low and muffled. Recording one track is fine but the more tracks I record over each other the further the previous recorded tracks fade into the background even though they sound is clear on their own. Am I missing something to prevent this? Please answer all questions!!!!

Will i need an audio interface ?
Will i need a Midi Sequencer ?
What is te cheapest soundcard with preamp i can get?

I ahve a song or two recorded and you can hear them by clicking:

Post a mix in Recording Reviews. I'd like to hear what is going on. It will help me give better advice for you.

This sounds like something is wrong with your Boss recorder. I'd check the manufacturer and see what they say.

For any home recording, I always recommend a real deal audio interface. Check out my home recording soundcard wizard in my signature.

If you plan on using MIDI you will. I prefer Cubase for this, but I think Audition has a sequencer built in, doesn't it?

That sounds like a job for the Home Recording Soundcard Wizard.
