Hey guys--I'm new here. I have a quick question for you pros :P. I currently am running 5 KRK RP5 powered monitors to a creative x-fi champ sound card in my PC (I have dual RCA --one RCA per speaker pair --to stereo running into the sound card jack). The thing is...I have the motu ultralite which definitely gives me higher quality audio but I cannot figure out any way possible to set up 5.1 audio through the motu. I can only do regular 2 channel setups. I use my monitors for recording and for regular movie watching, etc on my PC. Is there any way to make this work?
The other problem is...I just purchased a Korg TR88 workstation and I don't want to run it through my guitar amp. Ideally, I wanted to have two of the KRKs working with the keyboard. But I don't know how to get it to work that way. If I run a TRS or XLR cable from the KRKs to the keyboard in addition to the RCA that is already in there, I was told that the RCA input will be blocked so I can't do both. I figure this may be possible if I can set up my speakers via the MOTU and just have the keyboard run as an input to the MOTU. If anyone can help me with this I will be RIDICULOUSLY grateful. Thanks so much! |

Setting up the Ultralite to run multiple channels is easy (I did it last year when I wrote some surround soundscapes for a concert I did), but I don't know about using it to watch things like DVD's where you need a decoder for your surround sound. I bet its possible. As for the keyboard. Well, you could use some of the many inputs on the ultralite, and then they'd go straight to your speakers. Don't even need to have your computer turned on since the ultralite can work without.

Actually Windows Media Player has not played any DVDs in 5.1 for me even in my current setup. I ahve to use VLC player to make it work. I usually use winamp for music. I ahve to set up something called CMSS on my creative sound card to extend 2 channel audio to 5.1 channels though. I do that so that if I have a party or something, I can have the extra volume and bass from the sub.
