Motu 896HD Problem

I bought a Motu 896HD and it sat unused for quite a while. I want to use it for my live gigs but am finding it to have a few problems:

1: Electrical pops and clicks when turned on.
2: When connected by Firewire the headphone only output just goes full blast on the volume when the switch is down. Channel 8 goes into the red.

The unit seems to work ok when not connected to the computer.
I tried to download all the latest drivers, but this just made the problem worse and my Mac didn't recognise it anymore. A real pain.
I don't want to dump it so if anyone has any help and advice they can give it will be very much appreciated. It's frustrating the hell out of me.

Do you have these problems with other computers? I'd definitely give it hell on another computer just to see what happens.

I'd also look for new drivers and, in particular, new firmware. That often does the trick.

Tried it on a G5 and my MacBook Pro. Still the same problem.
It was even worse when I updated the drivers. Didn't even get recognised by any of the Macs.
Stuck the old drivers back on, but still have the problem with the headphone switch.

I'm thinking it's crap really. Getting very, very bored with it.
