midi interface vista 64 bit issue
I have a brand new HP computer running Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit, SP2 with AMD Phenom(tm) 9750 Quad-Core Processor
2.40GHz and 8 GB of RAM. I bought a MOTU Fastlane USB and downloaded the latest 64-bit drivers compatible with Vista.
Whenever ACID Pro plays a MIDI track to any of my external devices (a Korg 01/W or a Korg Triton) the music starts off almost
in synch with the project (a hair ahead), but then gradually falls behind. I am not talking about audio latency with a soft
synth. It's like I have a MIDI latency issue.
I have tested the MOTU Fastlane (using it's 32-bit drivers) with ACID Pro 4 on my old PC running XP Home Edition and it works
fine, so I do not think that the MOTU Fastlane is the issue. I have tried using different USB cables and different USB ports
on the new PC and it doesn't help.
I am considering trying to exchange the MOTU for a new one, but I don't think that hardware is the issue.
I started to wonder if it is an issue with the 64-bit drivers for the Fastlane.
Then I purchased a Cakewalk UM-2G, downloaded and installed the 64-bit drivers for Vista and still encountered the same
issue.
Does anyone have any knowledge of this issue and do you have any suggestions on how I can fix this?
Thank you very much for your assistance.

Re: midi interface vista 64 bit issue
Sounds like software settings. I don't use either of the DAWs but you should recheck your sync/clock settings.

Re: midi interface vista 64 bit issue
Thank you for your reply.
I tried checking everything I could in ACID and can't find anything. I never had to set anything before.
Under Preferences there is a Sync tab. There is a paragraph preceding the settings that states:
The MIDI Timecode generate device can't be shared with MIDI playback devices. If no devices are displayed in the field below, check the MIDI page and deselct the device you want to use for Timecode generation.
Then there are the settings I can manipulate...
Generate MIDI Timecode settings:
Output device: (I have to choose something - default is None)
Frame rate: (If I choose a device I have to specify a frame rate)
Generate MIDI Clock settings:
Output device: (I have to choose something - default is None)
Trigger from MIDI Timecode settings:
Input device: (I have to choose something - default is None)
Frame rate: (If I choose a device I have to specify a frame rate)
I never had to change these before. Any suggestions on what to try?

Re: midi interface vista 64 bit issue
I dunno. Try looking for setting where you select "internal". Meaning that your application should be syncing the MIDI. Do a new recording to test your settings. I've only done this in Reaper, but I can do an hour and 20 min. with everything in sync.

Re: midi interface vista 64 bit issue
Oh, I have asked this question here and never got a good answer : ) I did get a response on the Reaper support site after I called the developers bad names !! They directed me to a thread where it was discussed in depth, but my searches had been unable to find.

Halovox,
