Default Midi controllers

Hi all, if I get a focusrite lexicon or whatever soundcard, then get a USB midi keyboard, where in the chain does this go? (into the computer?). And could I run a Roland guitar PU (Gk3) through the soundcard? any help much appreciated. Andy.

USB doesn't daisychain like Firewire (does it?)...

Each piece (the Lexicon, and the USB keyboard) will each connect directly to the computer via USB. The use of a hub is not usually recommended with audio/MIDI devices which need dedicated bandwidth.

Thanks Ritchie, now could someone explain, if I can access midi via usb into computer, what difference is there between a soundcard,eg Focusrite or Lexicon Omega, than a conventional (but with usb connection) mixer? ie Behringer Xenyx, Mackie, etc. please excuse my dumbness Andy.

Nothing. As far as I'm aware, it's the same exact thing. You just need make sure you select the proper input in your sequencer software, which you would have to do anyway.

Before USB Midi controllers became a big deal pretty much all MIDI controllers / keyboards used the standard MIDI jack. The easiest way to get MIDI into the computer was with a sound card.

You were dumb when you decided to start recording. All of us are guilty of that, so don't worry about it. It's guaranteed. Everyone on this forum (and every other recording forum is dumb!)
