Default Is a MacBook good enough for protools mixing?

i have the 2.0ghz with 1 gig of RAM and need to use my computer for mixing and want to make sure it will be capable of it. I am not doing much heavy recording with my computer since at home all I have is an mbox2 mini but I will need to mix songs with up to 24 tracks or so in protools on my computer at home. Should I consider upgrading to a macbook pro?

Your macbook should be fine. I dont think it'll be a huge deal, but 2GB RAM might make things a little smoother.
The Mini wont hold you back at all.

I agree. You should have no problem with 24 tracks, as long as you're not going crazy with plugin use. 2Gb RAM will definitely help you - don't buy it from Apple!

I've been running PTLE on a windows machine with 1.86GHz (single core) for a little under a year. It's fine. In fact in the beginning I had only 1G ram but recently upgraded to 1.5G when I started using more complex processing on my drum samples. Going to 2G would have been even better I'm sure but in my case it means dis-assembling the comp to get the extra 1/2 gig in there so I said screw it. It's working fine now. I would upgrade the ram but otherwise you should be fine. Good luck.

Charlie

That's a GREAT point! If you can avoid it, don't buy the upgrade from Apple. If you can install yourself you'll save a decent bit o coin.

I hadn't even really considered it, but does PTLE really even use dual cores? It's been using quads on Macs right?
