Unhappy M-Audio questions

Need help
I seem to have requirements that I know of that I need for this to work; I shut down other programs, I unplugged otherdevices...
Mobilepre USB M-audio interface
My system is Windows XP
OK I installed it according to directions....taking care to plug it in when and how they say...but...the computer crashed for a second time and I did not uninstall and reinstall the device...I just rebooted...the interface is connected but I am not sure it's OK now...not sure it's completely installed. So basically installed the drivers, so:
I placed M-Audio drivers software Cd into CD ROM
Launched MobilePre USB installation program
The install screen appears...I click next
Then Continue anywa according to instructions
CD performance enhancements appeared, clicked next
Promt says successful installation, click finish
hardware has not passed Windows logo test, clicked continue anyways
click finish, restart computer
I did ook up usb cord to my computer outlet first then to my M-audo interface when prompted.
Then it crashed and I rebooted but didn't uninstall and reinstall
Now it says Control Panel Setup; windows, I should see an M-Audio installed on the right side of my Windows taskbar and I should double click on this logo to launch the M-Audio MbilePre USB control panel. I don't see the red M. The control panel will have the USB record, volume, mute, link. etc.
So what is the problem?
At some point during installation the computer ins said to check 2 boxes it is recommended unless you know it is not supported by y our computer. I don't know if tis is why I am havning a problme and if I should reinstall and uncheck those boxes.
This is why someone I know who has a recording studio in his basement said he has the mac and prefers the mac and said that with windows you can do everything right and it won't work...don't know.
