Question M-Audio Project Mix I/O - Protools

Hello all I am new to the computer based software recording world, I am finally migrating over from my Yamaha AW16G Hard disk recorder. I just picked up the M-audio Project Mix I/O and Mpowered Protools 7.3. Any ideas on where to start with this stuff, I have not the slightest clue on where to get educated on how to use this and power of this great new tool. I was told by many this is the way to go but need direction.

Should I go to a studio training class on protools, are there any on-line tutorials, does this site offer training?

Please HELP!!!

Have you looked through the manuals? Crazy I know, but it might just work.

I found protools quite hard to grasp after 10 or so years on Cubase and the manual was invaluable. Digi usually includes manuals on how to set up your hardware and how to use the software.

Who told you that ProTools was the way to go? Maybe they can show you how to use it.

I'm assuming that you have a basic understanding of audio engineering (phase, gain structure, etc) and at least a basic understanding of music. From there, the only thing that is left is being proficient on your recording program.

Learning any "real" recording program takes time. Fortunately, there are lots of great tools to make busting through the learning curve a lot easier.

So, really dig into the manual. I'm the kind of guy that just browses through directions, pushes a lot of buttons, screams a lot of 4 letter words, and then I kind of understand how something works. When I started with Cubase SX3, I sat down and read the entire getting started manual (100 or so pages). I followed every tutorial in the getting started guide to the "T".

I'm confident I saved myself hundreds of hours of time wasting.

So, regardless of how you typically handle directions, I urge you to really follow the directions in the manual and go from there.

The other good thing about taking time to read the manual is that you learn things you wouldn't find otherwise, and although its probably true to say that you'd never miss them if they weren't there, there are some great time savers that you discover by reading the manual.

Yes, but I sure feel like a dumbass when I find out I've been doing X the REALLY hard way and could have saved myself 500 hours of wasted time.
