I have a M-Audio Fast Track with one microphone input and another line in/guitar input. I have two microphones which I want to use to mic my acoustic but when I plug one microphone into the line in slot the volume on it is pratically 0. I have to scream in it to get the littlest signal.

Yes, you will need to plug that second mic (1/4") jack into something that can preamp it for you. I am using the Mic Preamp line (using trim boost) in my Fostex XR7 (4-track mixer), and running out a 1/4" patch chord into the line-in slot of my Fast Track USB. Any unit with a trim knob / preamp / mic boost should work. It's a workaround, but now I essentially have 2 mics available, and can route each into the music software of my choice - L and R tracks channels.

DT_Chris is right. You need an external preamp of some kind. If you don't have a mixer to run out of, check out the M-Audio Audio Buddy Brandon |
