Default Looking for bass guitar VST Instrument

Hey everyone,

I play and record a lot of rock and metal, but I don't have a bass guitar.
Is there such a thing as a VST Instrument for realistic rock/metal bass guitar that is triggered by midi?

Thanks in advance,

Jesper

Yeah, I go back and force between real bass and Quantum XP Harcore Bass. The samples in Quantum XP are about as good as they good for the genre, but they require some work in the programming department to get it to groove.

A real bass, on the other hand, is easier to get the feel right (if you can play) but requires quite a bit more work to get the desired tones.

Also take a look at the scarbee bass series by Native Instruments (samplesets for NI Kontakt I believe...); the examples at their site sound great! I guess quite a lot of programming is involved to get results like that, but it does sound very good.

I have had decent results with spectrasonics' trilogy too... but for heavier metal I would look for alternatives. I'm not an outstanding bassist myself, I know my way around a bass guitar, but haven't got much real playing experience with a band. And what really raised the quality of my recordings bass-wise was to get a friend of mine who is a decent bassist to look over the programming I had done and make some changes, and just like that it sounded much better just a tip.
