Landers is on a distinguished road
Default Live recording, and a some home recording.

So here's what I got, and what I need you're help with.

I am currently in a two piece "Everything But the Girl" meets the "cocetau twins" by way of "the divine comedy" and "red house painters" band. I do all the music, and I loop multiple parts. I am playing guitar, mandolin, piano, bass, and lap steel.

I want to finish up my rack rig to allow me to plug into the house PA with everything, my setup, vocals, the whole 10 yards. And be able to record our shows so I can archive them.

I currently run, Tele(GK-3 equipped)-Roland GI20- (synth signal)-31band eq- dod 12 second delay - Aleis Quadraverb - mixer - Jamman - out
(guitar signal) - 31 band eq - Compressor - Volume pedal - Boss acoustic simulator - Whammy - Z-VEx fuzz factory - Rat - Dod 7 band Eq - Boss PH-2 - Boss PS-5 - Boss FL-2 - V-Amp Pro - Boss DD-3 - Digitech XP-400 - Boss HM-2 - Digitech digidelay - Boss PN-2 - Boss DD-20 - Digiverb - Quadraverb - Mixer - Jamman - Out

Okay, so I need some help getting the res of this figured out. A pain belive me I know. I have a patch bay, and behringer Rackmount limiter that can be used. I am planning on getting a rack mount 8 DI box for mandolin and bass and vocals and the synth signal and piano.

For the actual recording I might want to go with a DAT? I can't afford a laptop, which is what I should and will get eventually. I'm looking at getting a behringer tube mic pre amp and replacing the tubes. I am also getting a midi floorboard to control this stuff. And I have some editing software I am comfortable with on my computer.

I really want this set-up to double as my recording set up. I am poor, but this band is to difficult to play in without all this crap, sometime I feel I should form a Ramones cover band and be done with it

So what should I do? What do I need? any help is appreciated.

You wont' need a direct box for the vocals. You need a preamp (trim knob in a mixer) for that. Most mixers these days allow you to plug right in without a direct box.

Going the ADAT method will be more expensive in the end. The tapes are NOT cheap. Analog mixing is very expensive. I would HIGHLY recommend finding a $400 laptop and going that route. I have a buddy who runs sound for one band. He has a laptop and one of those Alesis mixer / audio interfaces.

Buy Alesis MultiMix 16USB Mixer online at Musician's Friend

This is like putting chrome rims on an 1994 Ford Taurus. Why? Get your rig together. Get it working. Then look at upgrades.

The biggest issue here is integrating the live sound stuff with the recording stuff. You have to split the signal in some way. It's not always easy.
