Question Lexicon Lambda???

Hi this is my first post, I wanted to say Hello, and thanks for being here....

I have had a bit of experience with professional recording and home recording with use of cassette 4-track recorders, however of course this is my first attempt to record through home computer. so i have a couple questions. I've been reading on the forums and I've already made some notes of good tips, and like I said I'm glad you are here.

So my dilemma is, I went out and bought the Sessions software, with M-audio USB interface, an after clearing out almost 4 gigs of memory to load it lol, got down to load the drivers and it wasn't compatible with my computer:
Windows XP {{{aaarg}}} so luckily I was able to return it, not sure what the problem was even though it was listed as compatible however it wasn't, but anyway..... I've been doing a little research and came across the Lexicon Lambda and its got Great Reviews, so I'm wanting to give it a try, what I need to know is has anyone used this device and can you tell me If it is Windows XP compatible (FOR SURE) and what they think of the recording quality.... Thanks for your time, and appreciate any and all feedback on this.... PEACE! T

Default Re: Lexicon Lambda???

Welcome to the forum and thanks for thanking me!

Let's get down to business.

The are EXTREMELY few pieces of recording software that aren't compatible with a clean installation of Windows XP. For what it's worth, a clean install of Windows XP is almost bulletproof. I think Windows got it right with Windows XP.

However, I've got a feeling that your system isn't so "clean". Everytime you install a new program (and even if you uninstall it) you've messed with the Windows XP installation. You've created conflicts, undid this, redid that, etc. I look at this as normal wear and tear.

Now, audio recording is very doable on an "clean" computer made in the past 6 years (depending on your needs). However, even a brand new $3,000 computer covered with junk (spybots, viruses, excessive temporary files, software you don't use, etc) will have big time trouble with even a moderate audio demand.

For the most serious users, I even recommend formatting brand new name brand computers.

As far as the Lexicon Lambda, I'd say you are looking at an excellent audio interface if it fits your needs. You may want to check out my home recording soundcard wizard in my signature to find out for sure if the Lexicon meets (or exceeds) your needs.
