OK seriously, I'm stupid. I guess my Mackie 824s just make too much traumatic noise when I make mistakes..... I'm trying to work out at what point I quit and start upgrading my software and hardware. I can't seem to get Kontakt 4 to work with Cubase SX3. The plugin is on the list, but it "can't load" it. Guitar Rig 4 doesn't work at all. Do I just plug the guitar cable straight into the breakout box to get guitar signal into the computer? Or do I plug into my POD and direct that into my breakout box?? I'm going to lose the plot if I can't make these damn things work. Sigh. Last edited by Xplora; 10-28-2009 at 02:57 AM. |

Mackie 824s are rated at 120W RMS. That means I get hit with feedback or AC spikes at 240W RMS full blast which is some scary crap. I remember in my old PC that the noise made if I turned the speakers on before the breakout box had initialised would both give me a weak heart (I'm still in my 20s!) nd almost wake the house up... I am not very brave anymore hehehe It's nothing to do with the speakers, just user error. I use a ST Audio C-Port. It's old school. Very old school. I'm pondering if I should upgrade, I think the only legacy parts of my DAW are Cubase, Toontrack superior 2 and the soundcard. I can't work out what I'm supposed to do to get sound from guitar rig because currently it sits there giving feedback. I've turned out the input gain on the soundcard but then I don't get any guitar sound. I typically route my guitar through 3 PODs, each into the mixer, and then the mixer goes into the Cport and thus the PC. Do I run a raw low impedence guitar signal into the breakout box? I don't particularly have an interest in hearing the Guitar Rig 4 sound, my PODs are great for that, but I'd sure like to have the reamping possibilities of pure software. I'm uncertain about the "corrupt" VST dlls; the only program (1 of 7) that will load into Cubase properly is FM8 (AKA who cares). I'm unsure if Reaktor 5 and Absynth 5 etc is a VST3 plugin or not? I don't have any support for VST3 with SX3. Seriously getting PO'd ehhehehehehhehehehehehheheheheh THE MADNESS!!!!!!!!!! THE MADNESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

As utterly nonsensical as it seemed, I just plugged the guitar into the breakout box, cranked the input and Bob's your uncle. Seems that our good friend GR4 just wants something. Very good little program, tons and tons and tons of nuance. I think I'm going to take a while to get my tones, because I'm wanting a LOT more tube based distortion than it knows how to give. Currently my guitar sound is Bass Vamp Pro (important that its the bass version) running the Dual Recto sound, with a distortion pedal in front and substantial compression on the dial - for the crunchy sound Guitar Vamp Pro running the Dual Recto Head sound, with some reverb and delay, for the muddy shitty sound (lol), mixed fairly low too... Pod Pro running a X88 preamp sound with tons of compression and delay, for the honky midrange "space" behind it all. The Bass Vamp sound is the only sound I'd use alone, but the phat sound creates a seriously brutal sledgehammer effect. So much so that once I start recording the latest bunch of songs, I'll be pulling it out of the mix occasionally because it is hard to do the Fear Factory thing with it on sometimes. Also makes my choice of guitar seem really difficult to work with, because GR4 appears to really bring out the character of the guitar, its quite pristine. I tried some clean sounds and some ZZ top presets and my RG7 just has way too bass to make any of those sounds seem convincing Last edited by Xplora; 10-30-2009 at 09:50 PM. |

It continues. My success. Rather than my frustration. ![]() Apparently you need to click on the "Use" column in the Plugin Info to rectify the problem. My plugs have loaded. Now the incompetence will be focussed on my compositional skills, rather than software compatibility. No idea how I'm going to get the guitar sound I'm after.............. oh well. God doesn't always provide answers, just tools. |

LOL it is little wonder Protools has been such a raging success. "Here is a computer. You plug the shit in, and the shit records your shit. Don't play around with the computer, it will get robo on your ass. Thanks for your time, gimme my 5 grand". Midi keyboard was giving me grief, took an hour to figure out the problem. Hope thats the last one |
