Default Interface troubles

Hi

i have just bought 2 edirol DA-2496 8 channel interfaces and have been having some trouble getting them to work in nuendo together.

now they are both PCI and im running a clock cable between the cards and have one set on external and my interfaces set on internal as my manual says. im getting signal to my computer in the control pannel of my interfaces. but the interface 1 wants to stay on 22,050 sample rate but i want it on the 44,100 and it keeps wanting to jump back to 22,050 but i have to make the 2 interfaces run the same samle rate and on interface which is running external there is no 22,050 option. i found out when i put the interfaces 1 on external and then back to internal it will stay on 44,100. but anyway its picking up signal from both interfaces.

now in my nuendo i put it into the hardware device area and turn all 16 channels to active and make some tracks and assign them accordingly but it is picking up signal from interface 2 and not interface 1. ive been ringing edirol for weeks and they cant seam to help me get it to work together. so im hoping you guys can. : ) thanks

First thing, let's forget about getting them to sync for the time being. With both audio interfaces installed, can you get either one to work for a given track? In other words, if you arm a track can you get signal from Channel #1 in audio interface A and Channel #1 in audio interface B.

I'm trying to simplify things here for troubleshooting purposes.
Another test. Set the output in Windows to be 1/2 of Audio Interface A. Play a cd or something through it. Does it work?

Now set it to be 1/2 of Audio Interface B. Play a cd or mp3 through it. Does it work?

This will get you started.

What if you set #1 to be the master and use it's own clock? Does it work then?

The idea is to make sure the problem is the clock and not something else.

i have
PCI #1 set to internal
Interface #1 set to internal
PCI #2 set to external
Interface *2 set to internal

also i have a clock cable between cards
and the lights about the swith indicates the connections are working.

also i have tried

PCI #1 set to internal
Interface #1 set to internal
PCI #2 set to external
Interface *2 set to external

with a clock cable between interfaces.

also the lights are on to confirm connection is working.
but the same problem.

i just tride everyway i can set up the clock for the lights to come on to lock. still no signal to nuendo

i tried them both on external and everyway possible and the only other way the lights came onto lock was all internal but still no signal to nuendo and the sample rate still wants to auto change back to 22,050 and i tried changing the other to that but it wants to jump to 41,100.

the software has its own area when i go to control panel for my interfaces and im getting signal there but no in nuendo.

Hmm. Nuendo may have a different approach to hardware than Cubase SX3 does, I guess. In SX3, I don't remembe clocks ever being an issue at all. I don't know if SX3 even makes concessions for the clock (I guess it's automatic).

I'd take Nuendo out of the equation for a while. I'd setup of both audio interfaces however you see fit. Then, in Windows, I'd make outs 1/2 of audio interface #2 the default audio playback. Then, I'd just play wav files, cds, or mp3s in Media Player until I get it to work correctly.

I think Nuendo is making this extra difficult in this case.

Also, have you verified that both audio interfaces work properly on their own?

I have set up my interfaces everyway they will lock together. then used cubase and yeah it found all the inputs automatically. the play back out of interface 2 works. but still im getting signal to my control panel but not from there to cubase.
