Wink I need a MAC GENIUS!!

I've figured out my Firefly problem...when in Audio MIDI setup, I cannot change the properties for the audio input/output (the Firefly). Consequently, none of the channels are active, leading to no input.

I feel a lot better now that I have the problem nailed, but I have been unable to figure out how to change this.

Everything is grayed out, as if it should be a non-issue with the device. When I was troubleshooting with Phonic (who eventually sent me back to the store for a replacement...even THEY thought it was hardware failure!), they insisted that if my computer was convinced I didn't need to change anything there, then it should be fine. When I got the replacement home, I had the same issue, so I have settled on this being the real problem.

Any suggestions??

Did you install the mixer software? If so, that should help you out. There are most probably no controls available in the System Preferences because it uses t he mixer software instead.

I have a mac, not a pc. There is no installation necessary.

Its supposed to be plug-and-play.

That usually means plug and pray.

Try installing the software if you have any.

Well that told me! Okay, lets see if you're a REAL hardcore Mac user. If you are, you'll ignore my advice to follow this link -

Haha. Richiebee, that was fantastic.

Seriously though, install the software.

i wasn't trying to be rude, i was just pointing out that your advice wouldn't work because there isn't any driver software to install.

you seem like you think you're some kind of hot-shot for directing me to a download that i had installed days before i posted this. it didn't work, which is why i created this thread. that "control panel" download doesn't do anything except change the settings that are also changeable in audio/midi setup; it just makes them easier to access.

i managed to solve the problem myself after doing a lot more digging. you'll be disappointed to know that no software installation was necessary, but thanks anyway. its good to know that the people here are so helpful and non-condescending.

You're welcome. Hot-shot? Yeah, that's me.

Good to see Apple is still including a bad attitude with every new Mac.

I'm brilliant yes, but I'm not a clairvoyant! How am I supposed to know you downloaded their software?

You may be brilliant, but I'm not retarded. I can read, and I obviously have internet. It doesn't take a mind reader to figure out from my post that I had probably gone to the website, and read FAQs already. I was actually really offended by your responses, leading to the "bad attitude". I don't know what you have against mac users, but you didn't need to take it out on me.

I don't have anything against Mac users. I'm writing this on a Mac. But typically Mac users have this attitude about them... and your posts are classic Mac user attitude posts. But seriously, we don't know what you've tried. You come here and tell us you have a problem and that you've spoken to Phonic (actually more likely a call centre that have never seen the product themselves if you dialed their helpline), but you didn't say what you've done to try and rectify the problem.

Try not to take life so seriously. This stuff is supposed to be fun, and while at times it can be frustrating, you should never lose sight of the bigger picture - hopefully you're alive, healthy and have food on the table at mealtimes. Not getting this to work will hopefully not change those fundamentals.

Go read some other posts, especially from people with less than 10-15 posts under their belt and see if you can figure out what they've done to rectify their problems before asking on the forum. Most people don't try anything, or at best try reinstalling drivers. They know they have a problem... asking people on a forum is often their first place to try and fix it. If you come here and ask the same kind of question without specifics on what you've tried, you have to put up with us starting at the beginning.

I'm not sure why you think a forum of people who've probably never even seen a Phonic product can do a better job of fixing it than the manufacturer. All we can do is try and use our own problem solving skills to help you solve yours. It might work, it might not. Its worth what you paid for it.

If you want help, you just have to ask, but don't berate us for just trying to help. And if you want to keep up the Mac superiority attitude, than I don't mind, but if you do, you'll have to put up with my Mac putdown attitude. Deal with it. It's the cost of doing business with me.
