HP laptop won't recognize Alesis Multimis 8 USB

Hello, gang!

I'm Spence. New here. My issue, is trying to get my HP laptop to recognize my Alesis Multimis 8 USB. I have done it in the past, but can't remember how. right now I can't get the signal into the laptop. I will search the site, but if anyone has a fast answer about what box needs to be checked, or what needs to be enabled or something, I am all ears and very grateful.

The Alesis Multiix 8 USB is plug and play. In fact, I've heard it doesn't even come with dedicated drivers.

So, it should fire right up when you plug it in. If not, there is a problem. It could be hardware. (Double check the Multimix 8 with another computer. Double check your USB port with another USB gadget.)

It could be software (Windows). That's the most likely culprit and it's not easy to diagnose.

Start with the hardware and get back to us.

I am able to hear audio from the laptop through the headphone jack on the Alesis. I tested that with the windows media player, so the USB connection seems to be working, at least in one direction.
