Default how to process live with Cubase sx 3?

Hello,

I've been using some effects plug-ins for guitar with cubase sx 3. I select an audio channel, I configure the inserts for that channel (reverb, guitar effects etc..). But I want to hear what kind of a sound will the channel output, before I hit record.

Thus, what I'm wondering is can I configure a channel so that, I can hear the processing output live, without having to record at first.

Thanks a lot already.

Selcuk

It doesn't take an fancy configuring. You just have to hit the monitor button. It glows an orange color when it's engaged.

If memory serves me well, by default Cubase turns this off when you hit stop. You can change it to leave it on all the time.

Let me know if this works for you.

Thanks for the reply, but i couldn't get my problem solved. When hit the monitor button; the bar that indicates the incoming signal on the channel blinks. However I can not get back any sound.

I'm using an M-Audio Audiophile PCI 2496 sound card and in the m-audio control panel; in the monitor mixer turn up the volumes for Wave Out and HW ln1/2 (this is where I input my instrument). And in the patchbay router for the HW Out 1/2 (this is what goes to my sound system), I choose Wave Out, Monitor Mixer or HW In 1/2 and none of them works for me to get the problem done. Normally I think that this configuration should be selecting just wave out in the patchbay router (just want to hear what comes out in cubase right?)

Is it a setting in cubase that I am missing?

Read the section on "Monitoring" in the manual. I think it's actually in the Getting Started Manual. This is where I found the option to change this.

Trust me, you can do this in Cubase. I set mine up in the same exact fashion. When I want to setup guitar sounds, I fire up my guitar (in my guitar fort...which is very isolated) and listen through the monitors through Cubase. I then adjust the tone to get what I need coming through the studio monitors. Then, when I'm happy with the tone I start recording.

You MUST have the monitor button engaged to hear what you are doing. This is not an issue of routing, necessarily, but more of an issue of how Cubase handles monitoring.
