Hi i'm new a this, I just ordered a M-Audio AudioBuddy. to do simple recordings , the thing is , does this go directly to the normal audio interface the one that the pc brought!? can I start recording with that and a mic? or do I have to buy a mixer or another product to make if funcional? or another audio card? help and thx's =) |

You could go directly to the computer's audio interface. That way you will get the benefit of AudioBuddy's pretty decent mic preamp (miles better than the one on the card already). The only thing you'll probably have to buy to make it functional right away is a 1/4" to 1/4" cable (a guitar cable will do) and an adapter to connect it to the little 1/8 line input on your computer (use the line input, not the mic input). AudioBuddy will improve the sound that's being recorded significantly (I have one and I've used it for a time; although I was plugging it into an Echo Darla 24) and will allow you to use pro mics (with an XLR connector). You will also be able to use a condenser mic with it (AudioBuddy has phantom power). You will probably wish to upgrade your audio interface at some point in the future if you want a further improvement in the sound. Many of them already come with mic preamps (which is what AudioBuddy is). AudioBuddy's preamp may be better or worse than those built-in preamps. If you get something with a built-in preamp I would do some experimenting and figure out what sounds best. Just remember to trust your ears first and then the prices.

Which interface? If you only need to record one or two mics at the same time, you can't beat Mackie Onyx Satellie system at its price right now ($179). The preamps on it are kick ass (much much better than ART MP and better than AudioBuddy). I use Mackie and things come out sounding clearer than anything I've used before. I wouldn't buy anything by Tascam (I've used one of their recent interfaces and the sound quality didn't impress me at all). Echo is a very good brand. Those are the three brands I have experience with. Just look around and read some reviews. I am not sure if you are going to like the sound of the ART Tube MP compared to other things. This was my first preamp and when I used it for a while and then tried other things I realized it made everything sound a little muddy and dark, not in a particularly nice way. Try it though.
