Default Help with monitors.

I'm setting up a new home studio and I'm going to need some monitors. I'd like to spend less than $500, but if you all say they're all crap, I could go as high as $1000. Recommendations?
I'll be doing mostly jazz/rock/blues, acoustic and electric guitar, saxophone/clarinet, voice, synths. Do I need a subwoofer?

If it was me, I'd spend $500 on studio monitors and then as much as possible on room acoustics.

I've heard that people like pretty much all of these studio monitors priced over $199 per speaker.

Studio monitors are not meant to sound ideal for any specific instrument. They are meant to allow you to make decisions that will make your mixes sound great everywhere.
